If You Think life is Meaningless, Find a Purpose Greater Than Yourself
Something bigger than you are
Find a Greater Purpose Beyond Yourself if You Believe Life is Meaningless
There’s someone you can help and something you can do
I sat down in front of my Surface Pro. When I checked the comments I saw that a young man wanted me to do a video on “what to do if you think life is meaningless.”
It’s on my mind a lot, I’m sure I will write more stories about it
I don’t know why I haven’t produced content on this subject because I have thought a lot about it. I struggled with hopelessness when I was homeless. I saw firsthand what happens when hopes and dreams die. I saw a lot of people who gave up. They existed, they weren’t living a life.
I could have done that, but I didn’t because I had someone to care about. A woman I met online from another State. In February 2017, I flew to South Carolina to be with her. We got married seven years ago this coming September.
Focus on something or someone else, your problems will shrink
Find someone or something to care about. Take the focus away from yourself. It’s not easy. It takes work and you have to keep at it. It gets easier as you change your thought processes and it’s worth it.
The people who have lives that mean something.People who impact society and the world. All have one thing in common. They all believe in something bigger than themselves. When people have a mission in life that consumes them they work hard to achieve their goals.
Rich people are diverse in their beliefs like everyone else. Some of them are into hedonism and self-indulgence. There are a lot of rich people who find meaning in charity and helping their communities.
I saw both sides when I was a security Guard in Florida
I saw that firsthand when I was working as a security guard in Florida. A lot of rich people work and donate to charities behind the scenes. They do it to help, not to get attention.
Lift yourself by helping someone else.
You might be going through hard times. You might be wallowing in despair. Whatever you’re going through someone is going through something worse. Find someone who needs help and offer your hand. It will give you a break from despair.
I appreciated the volunteers, and I still think about them years later
I saw a lot of volunteers when I was homeless. It takes a special person to get up hours before sunrise. To serve hot cereal and grits to several hundred homeless men. The volunteers were Christians and they were also good people.
There are many ways to fight hopelessness. Helping your fellow man is one way and prayer and worship is another.
I grew up in a Christian home. I haven’t always been the best Christian, I’m still not, but whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed. Whenever I think life is meaningless I start back reading my Bible and praying. Prayer has helped me get through homelessness and other trials I have gone through.
If you are despairing of life and whenever you start thinking life is hopeless. Find something bigger than yourself. Something that consumes you. Focus your mind and body on something challenging.
Be too tired and satisfied to be unhappy.
Come home at the end of your day so tired and satisfied that you have no room or energy for self-pity. There’s so much self-absorption in the world. It’s time people stopped thinking about themselves and started helping other people.
Final Thought:
It’s easy to feel isolated and hopeless. You have to fight it in any way that works for you. I found that the best way to fight despair is to care about someone else. It works for me. I know you can find something that works for you.
